We have all seen tragic news stories in recent days of people loosing everything due to natural disasters like fires and floods. A personal story that I was involved with was when I worked as a program director for a YMCA camp in Washington state. This story is about a fire that burned down the house of the facilities manager of the camp. Due to circumstances that on the one hand was fortunate both he and his wife were away from camp when this incident took place. The following couple days as I helped them sift through what was left of the home we came across the family albums and also their wedding album. While they had some marks from the fire, they were relatively intact and I truly saw in that moment what those albums meant to them. Almost two decades later that memory of Steve and his wife surrounded by ash and chared belongings looking through the albums is a powerful image that will stay with me.
